Glen Hansard has already given us some great love songs and one really great break up song, “Leave“. Hansard’s new track “Philander” is very mellow and withdrawn. There’s no overly emotional moments, and on first listen it’s not very powerful. But what makes this track move are the strings that swell in and out and the uneasy piano, and while Hansard comes off as reserved, there’s just as much emotion on “Philander” as with any of his material from The Swell Season.
Rating: 7 out of 10
