The Gaslight Anthem have always been nothing more than a Springsteen model. While they’ve never done anything too groundbreaking, it’s always quite entertaining. The energy of many of the older E Street Band tracks are found in The Gaslight Anthem and their new single, “45″, might be the best example yet.
“45″ brings in some hard guitars and the production is good, but it really sticks to the formula. Brian Fallon’s vocals are really raw here and it ends up being the best part about the track. The song doesn’t stray from the usual Gaslight Anthem sound, but they’ve really turned up the volume on “45″.
Rating: 5 out of 10.
To say they are just another Springsteen I feel is a grossly untrue. Their earlier albums were more Clash than Springsteen, there are many more infulences at play here (Pearl Jam, The Bouncing Souls and Hot Water Music to name a few). The comparison is to easy to make as they come from the same place, but when you put two tracks side by side, they are not as simular as everyone makes out.
