It’s been a few years since The Killers have put out any new material, with their 2008 album, Day & Age being too lackluster to garner much attention and Brandon Flowers’ solo record doing much of the same, it’s about time the group got back to making music.
Their new album, Battle Born, is due out on September 18th, and the single, “Runaways” sounds like a promising return. The song starts off with some light synths and Flowers put out some lines about teenage love and the chorus kicks in with some big rock guitar and some marching drums.
“Runaways” is very audacious, polished and over the top, but that’s what have made The Killers worthwhile. Flowers puts forth some really typical lyrics about “waiting until tomorrow” and “I’m like a ghost wandering these halls”, but there’s few people who sing quite like this guy so it’s alright.
